Synopsis: Knowledge and Communication through the Ages

The human race has long searched for meaningful interpersonal connections. Tools and technologies have made it easier to reach out and share ideas, but each presents a new, unforeseen challenge. We must always ask: "Is this what we want? What do we want?"

Biography: Ying-Fang Shen (Dept. of Communication Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University)
A visual artist and storyteller. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, trained as a painter and immersed in East Asian arts for over 20 years, Ying-Fang Shen is very much intrigued by metaphorical communication, which strongly influences her creation of sequential arts. Her recent works falls within the fields of painting, illustration, and animation. Many of them draw upon human nature and gravitate toward related subjects and characters Shen’s animated works have been exhibited in Europe, Asia, North and South America, and have received acclaim in cities including Annecy, Chicago, New York, Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Sao Paulo, Taipei, and Vancouver, Bali, Berlin, Guam, among many others.
